The new, lighter, monochrome

If you love monochrome but want to keep things lighter, use paler shades on walls and team with dark accessories and furniture. This is the approach I’ve taken, in my open plan family room, with black leather sofa’s, practical for family life, and black oriental inspired furniture, contrasting with metallic accessories and pale grey throws with velvet cushions. The look is softened further with a large vintage Turkish rug (an ebay find) and Farrow and Ball Blackened and French Grey on the walls.

Keeping things light is all about the balance of colours. Nordic House and Design Vintage have some great black and white and metallic accessories that will be great standouts in the inverted monochrome home.  Think black cushions, pale grey fur throws, and some stand out black and white art and colourful art work on your walls.  Time for a virtual shopping trip:
